Golu 2012

There is just something about Golu that reeks of color, traditional, creativity. Every year I go crazy when its time for Golu as i need to visit relatives, buy small gifts for people visiting home and of course decorate the house (not to mention help mom with the golu). Ours is definitely not the   traditional golu with 9 steps and a lot of mud and clay dolls. Neither is ours filled with idols of gods and goddesses. This year due to space constraint and lack of time, we kept our golu small, simple and very modern. Navarathiri is probably one of the most colorful and happy functions in the south of India. This golu we had a very small 3 step golu with bright and colorful dolls and other pretty stuff. My origami had to be there too. The "sundal", "vettalai paaku" and the "colorful dolls" are a huge treat. Chennai - Mylapore was filled with small and big vendors selling golu dolls, lamps, ornaments etc. If you don't see the golu in South of India you are missing something huge.
